The principle of operation of Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SRM) has been known since about 1800-th year. Only recently, these motors have been introduced into the industry, as they required special type of devices for control, due to their working principle. Such devices are possible thanks to the development of power electronics. Due to their design, SRMs are highly efficient but demand Variable Frequency Drives (VFD). This report compares the operation of the VFD-SRM kit and a standard induction motor in terms of power efficiency.
