This paper presents theoretical and experimental studies of a three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor powered by a single-phase AC grid. The main connection schemes utilizing phase-shifting capacitors are analyzed. The influence of magnetic asymmetry and the counter-rotating magnetic field on the machine's energy performance is investigated. An analysis of electrical energy parameters is conducted in accordance with the IEEE 1459-2010 standard across three primary operating modes: no-load, motoring under load, and self-excited generating mode. Recommendations are formulated for selecting the capacitance values of the run and start capacitors to minimize losses and improve efficiency.
